Central locking

Postby PhilCheetham » Tue Jul 21, 2015 12:11 pm

I have a problem that occasionally the central locking goes haywire, perhaps after washing the car, 2000 XK8 coupe. Recently it stopped working completely and the windows did not adjust on opening/closing the doors. Occasionally when unlocked with the fob it unlocks and locks numerous times. It was not working at all so I looked at the fuses. When I removed and reinserted fuse number 15 /25amp on the drivers side, listed as "Driver's door control module, transit relay" in the book. It went through the unlocking and locking routine and now seems to be working, although when unlocking with the fob it does the unlocking/locking a number of times. When locking it works perfectly. Anyone got any ideas.
Cheers

Hi.

- Check that your battery is fully charged. These cars are very sensitive to a failing battery.

- Open the circular connector in the door jamb (between the hinges) and spray carefully with electrical cleaner. (not WD 40)

- The door latch contains three microswitches that may fail. If you have a Door Open Warning with the doors closed, one of them has failed. Removing the door latch to renew, or to change the microswitches, is cumbersome but possible.

- Always disconnect the battery when working on electrics. Have your radio code ready.

I had similar symptoms when the passenger door lock failed. The lock unlock would cycle several times.... Resolved by an new door lock mechanism.. As oyster has advised you can change the micro switches if you have the skills and patience.

Thanks the battery seems ok. I will try the circular connector first and see what that does. The door open warning only comes on with the door open
