XJS Coupe 1994 - boot lid inoperable

Our Drive-It Day to Burton Constable was a day of unexpected sunshine, delightful venue, and a good turnout, but my boot lid decided it had had enough and was going to stay shut all day with camera and , most important, various feminine essentials locked therein. Luckily there was a good supply of specialist knowledge around. The estate manager produced an electric drill, and Ken Jenkins soon had a hole drilled in the right place after removing the number plate and a broddle with a screwdriver had the lid open and the day saved.
'Not an unusual fault, particularly on later cars' was mentioned.

I was told that there has been an article about this in the Magazine, but a search of the archives has not revealed anything so far.Anyone had the same problem? Would be nice if the link connection which becomes detached could be re-engineered so that it does not happen again as it could be a major embarrassment.
