Buying an X-type - advice sought,please

My Manager fancies an X-type! (I have an XJ6 V6 2003 90k miles which is a cracker).
What model/engine size would the team recommend for my good lady?
It has to be automatic, and an estate may be a bit "big" for her.
What about 4 wheel drive models - reliability mainly - there seem to be several about?
I've read that either 2.5 or 3 litre petrol engines are reliable; she doesn't do a lot of miles and quite a few short runs. Overall reliability would be the key consideration.
Any comments would be appreciated.

From reading on here the transfer box on 4wd models can be troublesome. I personally would go for the 2.5 but if you wanted to stay away from 4wd a 2.0 would be great. Not too sure if you can get auto box in a 2.0 though.
