Brake Warning!

Postby jaydev » Mon Jun 19, 2006 10:44 am

Hi,

As we have been having some great weather I thought i would take the XJs out, I have been doing this over the past few weeks and enjoying it very much. However, on Saturday afternoon I was in town and suddenly the red brake light (!) came on, followed by the "ANTI LOCK" light. I couldnt really find a conveinient place to stop and i wasnt too far from home so i manged to get it there. The Brakes were acting funny and a sort of a "gurring" noise was comming from the front. The pedal also seemed to have a bit more travel and a pulsing effect was experienced. I finally got home and as soon and i was about to park up, both lights went out and then i did take it out for another quick drive and things were fine. I took it out again on Sunday, but no symptoms were experienced. The Lights all come on just before as i start the engine as they should.

I was wondering if anybody else has had this happen to them, Should i be very worried?

Your comments and suggestions greatly appreciated

Regards

Jay

Could it be that a wheel speed sensor has an intermittent connection, possibly causing the system to think a wheel has locked and thust keep relieveing the brake pressure (the GRRR noise from the relief solenoid switching on and off)?
What ever is going on, it definately needs fixing by the sound of it, you dont want the brakes going soft in an emergency!

Hope that helps.

Thanks Ralph,

I will take each wheel off and check the sensors.
