Timing cover oil leak
Moderators:robv12, xj40_register, Popsjag
Hi, I have an aj16 supercharged engine fitted to my old xjc. The timing cover has started to leak. It's already had a new head gasket and I've just serviced it so don't want to strip it all down. It looks like the blue sealant I used for the timing cover has dissolved when in contact with the oil even though it was a well known brand and meant to be unaffected by oil. Is it possible to remove and replace the timing cover without removing the cylinder head and what's the best sealant to use? Any hints and Tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Re: Timing cover oil leak
Yes you can remove the timing chain cover without removing the cylinder head - I've just done it, but it is tight!
I got the info from this site - http://jimbutterworth.co.uk/.
Click on 'Jaguar xj6'. Then click on 'Timing chains & guides'.
I used red RTV Sealant when I reassembled. Haven't got to the 'firing up' stage yet, so can't say about oil leaks, but have faith in it.
.
Regards, Steve.
