Daimler V8 250 transmission fluid

Postby neilcampbell » Sun Feb 26, 2012 7:25 pm

Hello, I'm in the process of recommissioning a Daimler V8 250. During the 12months its been in my garage a significant amount of transmission oil has dropped onto the floor. Whilst I believe the oil has come from the gearbox (from the location on the floor), I do know that the power steering 'tank' has been leaking, but I doubt the oil would reach that far back.

On checking the dipstick the oil is about 1 1/2 inches above the 'full' mark. I know I should check the oil when its been running.

My qustions are 1) when cold does the oil come that far up the dipstick.
2) What oil should I use. as I believe you can get modern transmission oil which is thinner.
3) can I use the same oil in the power steering unit.

Many thanks
