V12 breathing

Postby Alistair » Fri Sep 09, 2005 2:58 pm

I have not a problem, merely an enquiry as to the thoughts and feelings of anyone with a V12 who has or is considering "piping up" the air intake trumpets/air filters. Is it as daft as it sounds?Does it make sense? Is it too much trouble? Our friends over the pond seem to be very keen.
Has anyone done this?
Would I be outcast as a leper or heathen if I were to do it?
Would the car/driver benefit from this mod?
Should I also consider larger throttle bodies as well as?
Maybe a "smart" ECU chip would further assist?
PLEASE DO NOT MISJUDGE MY REASONS FOR THESE THOUGHTS,I AM SUITABLY IMPRESSED BY THE MACHINES' OVERALL CAPABILITY AND PERFORMANCE, I JUST FEEL IT COULD BE A TAD MORE RESPONSIVE.
I AWAIT YOUR SENTENCE WITH BATED BREATH!

Have alook at the AJ6 engineering web site.
www.jagweb.com/aj6eng

They supply the parts required and explain why so this may help.

V12 breathing

Dear alistair

you can gain sum bhp from direct air in to the inlet manifold but you need to open up the inlet box's or use the later 90 Deg bends and pipe to front of car so that it has cold air also we put a front loading air filter on the end of pipe

hope this helps paul.

I heard that the 6.0 XJR-S inlets were larger and apparently give a worthwhile breathing improvement to a 5.3. However getting hold of such parts might be easier said than done 8)
CLEAN old '87 XJ-S 3.6 manual (for sale!)
If no-one buys it soon, its going on classic insurance!
