Hi, My v8 250 (AUTOMATIC) has been laid up for 6months but it started first time. I took it out (merely 50yds) I engaged 'D' but there was a significant (whoosh) noise from the gearbox and the revs increased only to find I coudn't disengage from Drive and it continued to move forward- even in 'N'. I eventually got reverse and then 'D' but immediately garaged it. I know I have lost a lot of gear fluid-I guess about two pints. ( pink colour). Would this loss of fluid produce my symptoms
Secondly what is the modern fluid I should use to replace that Auto oil.
Many thanks
Neil

Re: Daimler v8 250
Hi Neil
Not sure why you know your 2 pints short of fluid, unless you found it on the garage floor!
Anyway for automatics that have been sitting for a long period. It is always good practice once the engine is started and while stationary to cycle the selector through all the gear positions to ensure the torque convertor and valve package are full of oil. from your description lack of fluid could certainly be a cause.
Keep using ATQF fluids sold from most outlets ie garages, Halfords and others.

Re: Daimler v8 250
HI john, very helpful and many thanks for the advice. I guess I lost about two pints from the amount I repeatedly cleaned from the garage floor. Again most helpful.
