TWR rear spoiler rework......

Postby Brakebuster » Wed Sep 22, 2010 5:31 pm

well, as part of the ongoing ( now 5 years ) restoration , i have been test fitting the third bodykit, this is the best of the lot so far

i have got the original TWR boot spoiler , but , as with most of these spoilers, the mounting bolts have rusted out ,

it turns out there is a spiked lug bonded into the spoilers posts, this along with the bolt rusts and seizes , and when trying to remove, snaps the bolt or rips out the fibreglass mount

mine were a mixture of the above, and even had a wood-screw and rawl-plug in one, lol

my solution was to ' dremmel ' out the entire base getting rid of any of the existing/remaining system ,

this left me with a large hole to fill , my solution was to resin in an 8mm ' coach-bolt ' in reverse , this coach bolt has a domed head with a square section behind before the thread starts , , for added grip i cut a cross into the domed head with the grinder ,

i pre-filled the holes to a depth of 40mm with silicone , this was only to prevent the fibreglass from dropping out , then with the bolts offered into the right place i glassed fibered them in ,

boy that stuff gets hot while going off , lol

then , a clean up with a file, and four perfect mounting bolts mounted in the rear wing,

these now line up perfectly with the mounting holes on the boot, and four large washers and nuts hold it all in place,

i did make the holes slightly elongated , for small adjustments once its all put back together
