Key fob and Radio Security Code

In the case of key fob replacement this is a job to be aimed at a Jaguar Main Agent. The new "blank" codeless key fobs have to be programmed to your car using a special electromic coding unit.The work is not cheap. One of our members informed me he paid £175 for an extra fob and key for his son. Since hearing that story, I keep my keys very close to me. The cost of replacement being the incentive.
Hopefully when you bought your car, you should have aquired radio code tags with the car. They give the four digit code for resetting the radio code after battery disconnection. I also found my code written on the original sales invoice so this is a bonus which is difficult to misplace.
Last week I changed my V8 battery as it was seven years old and had begun to loose the starting struggle. Appart from a seized battery clamp tie down bolt, the job went quite normally. When I reconnected the second heavy cable (Red, Positive) to the car, all I had to do was enter the first digit with the first radio button, the second digit with the second button etc. Confirmation of the entered code is by using the FIFTH button. Note you only get two or three tries at this before the radio shuts down and you then have to visit a Jaguar main dealer. Instructions for code setting may be found in the audio booklet in the leather service wallet supplied with the car.
Interestingly, due to continued problems I have had with throttle body limp home failures, the orange MIL light on the left of the dash information panel,is a feature that I have had to endure for some time. To my joy, after battery disconnection and reconnection, The MIL lamp was extinquished. This is a known answer to resetting the car computor of some known gremlins. A handy tip provided you have the radio code to hand if you do this. Otherwise, more tears!!

Replacement Key with Fob
What is it with Jaguar owners - I am now on my third and on each occasion I have had to go the expense of buying a spare key from the main dealer.
All is not lost however as I have found and brought a brand new genuine Jaguar four button fob and blank key blade (Jaguar part number 1X43-15K601-BD) off eBay from reseller garyh68 for £54 and it comes complete with programming instructions.
It should be arriving in a few days and I will be sure to let you know how I get along.

Replacement Key with Fob
Just a quick update on my last posting.
OK so the brand new key fob arrived in two sections - genuine Jaguar items which just clicked together. Brillant !
Quick trip to my local cobbler / key cutter and a few minutes later I left equipped with a replacement key which just needed programming.
According to the instructions it should have been a walk in the park....... insert original key into the ignition and turn from position 1 to postion 2 and back four times in quick succession whereupon you will hear a chime. Remove the original and insert the replacement key whereupon its programmed. QED
Mmmmm no chime. Key did everything expected of it but start the engine.
So it was off to the main Jaguar dealership and thirty minutes and £50 later I had a key that worked.

£ 5 Key Cutting
£ 50 Programming @ Jaguar dealership
£105 Total
By my reckoning I saved about £50 - £60 by not buying direct from Jaguar but it did involve a fair bit of running around.
