Door shut lines

Postby peter7486 » Tue Jun 29, 2010 7:20 pm

Whilst the panel fit on my car is very good, I am not totally happy with the near side door shut line as it is slightly proud of the body. Is this an easy fix by adjusting the striker plates or as I suspect is it a more complex job for a body restoration specialist involving lead filling and re painting?

Regards

Hello Peter,

it is worth slackening the striker plate and seeing if it will move in closer. I.e., take the simple option first.
Is the door proud an equal amount from top to bottom? If not doors can be twisted to correct this, as long as the front is level top to bottom.

Door Shut Lines

Hi Peter
Has anything changed to bring about the poor fit or has it been this way since you have had the car?

If for example you have changed doorcard trim or sealing rubbers then this might be something to investigate.

If the door is "out" of its aperture ie proud front and rear then hinge and striker adjustment could restore the lines, if just rear it might be possible to improve the shut with striker adjustment alone.

Have a play, you know the position you are in now and can return to this state or you might improve it.

Regards
Pat
