Engine missfire

Postby Ian-e-type » Tue Jun 23, 2009 11:57 am

Hi everyone, have a problem with an early series 3 (71) in that it has a very slight and random missfire on idle. Have done all the usual things leads, plugs etc but still there. Could this down to the ignition module itself?? Also could you tell me if the fuel pump on this should run all the time? or should it switch. Many thanks. Ian.

Hi

Ignition module failure in my experience has either been a breakdown when hot eventually leading to the engine stopping, only allowing it to restart when cool, or simply no start at all. Thats not to say it couldn't be the ign module, see if you can borrow one for as trial by substitution.

The fuel pump should run whenever the ignition is on. Fuel returns to the tank via a pipe located by B Bank carbs after a one way valve.

Best of luck
Pat
