Hi All,
Last Sept i picked up a lovely '94 XJ40 Sov. Everything was working fine untill yesterday when the central locking started playing up.
If I go to unlock it from the drivers door the central locking doesn't work at all. I can open the car from the passengers side, and the central locking will lock lock all doors from the drivers side.
I have sprayed some WD40 into the lock but still not working.
Anyone have any ideas to the cause and maybe how to fix it would be greatly received.

I have a '94 Daimler (XJ40) with similar problems. When you say locking is difficult, I am assuming you mean the mechanical action of turning the key in the lock rather than the remote action (by pressing a button on the key).
Initially my driver's door lock became stiff then would not lock at all, but the passenger side would. Then this too suffered the same problem, becoming extremely difficult to lock (visions of a broken key in the lock!!!).
I too lubricated with WD40 but I obviously did not do it enough as the problem eased when a long tube was inserted deep into the lock and an excessive amount of WD40 was used by my local mechanic.
It seems as though the cold weather may have something to do with this problem although I cannot say for sure. The car is still with in the workshop, having other problems sorted, so I will only know for sure when I get it back tomorrow.

XJ40 is prone to sticky door handles, the c/locking will play up if the lock mechs in the doors are starting to seize as well, remove the door cards, check all the mechs and handles are free and liberally coated with white grease and wd 40
also check both front door lock solenoids these fail, and then the c/l will also fail, while there check the micro switch on the front door handles that operates the window closure from the key, these also fail
