Starting an XJ that has been standing

Postby greeny » Sun Aug 17, 2008 4:10 pm

My XJ40 has been standing for 6 months while I was abroad and I am wondering if I need to do anything before trying to start it again.

I read somewhere that when starting cars that have been standing for a long time that it is a good idea to remove the spark plugs and put a little oil down the cyclinders?

The tank was virtually empty of fuel and I intend to just fill it up with a few litres to get it started. I have recharged the battery.

Thanks for any advice

I'd get in touch with David Marks, see the forum contacts on the home page for his number. There are probably some other things to look at with the car having stood for 6 months. Regards, Chris.
