Rear Subframe Bushes

Postby Graham » Sat Mar 15, 2008 6:55 pm

Hi has anyone had any experience in changing these bushes on a 1991 4ltr Daimler Sovereign.I am experiencing knocking when going over bumps or on uneven roads and on checking under the rear of the car i notice that these bushes look worn out. When driving on the motorway there is no problem.Just a quick note the self levelling suspension has been removed from the car.Regards Graham

Hello. I have had these symptoms on two separate occasions. I could have sworn that the rattles were coming from the rear but in each case the fault was at the front. The first time it was a shock absorber and the second time it was the links between the rollover bar and the lower wishbone. Each time the fault was cured, so I suggest you check out the front suspension as well. Regards, Roger.

Rear A Frame bushes have finally been replaced by my local garage.I did try and do the job myself but due to the previous owners neglect on maintaining any lubricant on all the bolts i had to take it to the local garage. The owner being an enthusiast(thank u o great one),did not charge me the going rate of two days in getting the A frame off due to a seized bolt which had to be cut off and re threaded. So my advice for what it is worth is to keep your "rear end" well lubricated. The car now has no knocks or bumps but i have decided to have the rear springs and shocks replaced with the hub bearings just to make sure it all stays ok and while the owner is in a nice state of mind. :lol:Happy motoring Graham. :D

How does one refit the bushes into the subframe? Answer - make up a tool to do said job!

How long to make tool? - 3 days (in between work of course!).

How long to refit bush? - less than a minute each side!!

Steve.
