Scary

Postby RAJ » Thu Oct 18, 2007 12:15 am

First time out in the dark.

On a bendy road nothing coming in the opposite direction. Flick main beam on, everything stops and goes out. No lights, engine dead. Glad there was nothing behind me.

Started up o/k, driving along, main beam on, same thing.

Got to my destination, parked up, main beam on same. Start it up, main beam on same again.

Right I'll drive home on dipped and try it when I get parked up at home.

This I do, I gets home main beam on no problem.

Switch off, start up, main beam on, no problem.

Strange one :?:

Scary tho' when everything goes out at night.

Bearing in mind your car's earlier electrical gremlins, it suggests all the problems are related and since this issue could be really dangerous I'd recommend that you get a garage with proper diagnostics to check battery condition and for failure codes, then go from there. Mike.

I took it to a none franchised total Jaguar specialist. With the very latest Bosch Diagnostic equipment.

New Battery, replaced a faulty crank' sensor and sorted a lighting earth fault. Detected the alternator not up to full output but still o/k. Maybe a a problem if put under heavy load, seats, rear screen and headlamps. Possible future problem. I'm told a recon' alternator is much cheaper than a new one.

Seems o/k now, fingers crossed.
