REAR SEAT BELTS

Postby TCALVERT » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:40 am

I have a November 1985 built, January 1986 registered, coupe which is not fitted with rear seat belts. I wish to fit some so that I can "squeeze" my 2 little children in legally and safely. The seat base does not have any holes in it as in later models, so there is nowhere obvious for the receivers to protrude. Is there an alternative receiver available which I can use, without going to the expense of buying a new seat base!!

REAR SEAT BELTS

Postby JaguarMike » Tue Jul 13, 2010 8:01 pm

Hi T Calvert,

I believe the later models ('95/'96) were fitted with webbing short ends with the bench seat. Maybe these could be used poking through the seat cushion and squab "bite" point?

I think they also started with webbing short ends before going to fixed metal cushions brackets (like on my '93.5MY).

Another alterative could be to use Series III XJ short ends which maybe longer?

Always check they'll mate with the male end of the belt (tongue) as these changed over the years too.

Might be worth having a look on the JDHT parts web site for illustrations and part numbers first.

If you work our what length you want I may have a way of finding out the OE buckle length was.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jaguar Mike

Hi Jaguar Mike,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I will certainly try your suggestions, as I'm a bit stumped at the moment!

Many Thanks
