You Spanner!!!!!

So the question is......
What are you useful for, You spanner!!!!!

By that i mean i have a load of none metric spanners and sockets, in fact even more now that i bought a tool box of tools last weekend at a car boot.

It seems to me that unless i decide to start buying and driving, chug a boom or chitty chitty bang bang type cars, i am never ever going to need or use these things.
Since i first started driving, and messing with cars, i cant think of one that was not metric.
So in effect i am giving house, or rather garage space to a load of metal i would be better off weighing in.

A lot of the nuts and bolts on the XJS are imperial not metric. If you plan on doing any work yourself on your XJS they will come in very useful.

Ha Ha! I know what you mean.
A few years ago I ditched 30 years worth of indifferent quality sockets, allen keys and spanners and treated myself to complete professional quality sets of AF and Metric kit.

I now can find exactly what tool I need every time and know that it isn't going to slip, break or rattle around in the bottom of a tool box.

Buy quality and buy once is the motto.

I never throw any tools away. while quality tools may be best, on some occasions I find a cheap spanner rather perversely fits a worn nut or bolt when the quality item slips.
It also hurts less to modify a cheap tool for a specific job.

I'm afraid i really can't afford more expensive tools, but if i found a box of snap on stuff i am sure i could manage using them.

one of my best tools, was a hex type tool, so that i could remove the gearbox sump plug and filling plug.

It consisted of a short piece of thick threaded rod, 2 nuts the size of the sump plug socket and a bit of welding.

And i finished the job off by filling the gearbox up from the engine compartment, in comfort thanks to a length of old hose pipe.
