I just looked at my new mag and as usual the XJS forum has that bleasdale chappie in it again going on about B Thomas again and again and again.
Come On JEC ,this part of the magazine is now getting very boring.
I feel these two characters are up their own exhausts.

Rant over.

I have mixed feelings I am a cabriolet owner.
I would respectfully suggest the best way to improve the magazine content is to write an article for it.
I will write a technical article if you will? In fact perhaps we should hold a contest for best submitted article over twelve months.
regards Kels.

Heyro1 a warm welcome to the XJS Forum.
Don't despair I think that the mag. articles will now start to change over time, bear in mind there is a long lead time for publication.............kels is right tho', we will need to fill the space with copy so I would urge everyone to think about whether they can submit something. I'm sure Paul will be happy if you want to discuss this or if he's not available please contact me.

re the Mitsuoka Viewt, I too have seen one in the flesh and I don't think the photos in the mag do it justice  .......It's far worse looking than that.
I remember thinking that the designer must have been on some kind of mind altering drugs when he thought it up. It's like a manufacturer produced cartoon cut and shut.

Still, ONLY six grand

Thank you for the welome.
I am sure Paul would want rid of the CAB twins also.
The register is becoming very boring now.
Its a good thing but a shame the Man(men)involved are so one minded.

I had know idea that it was us, who were responsible for the writing and content of the jec mag?
Is it all purely from input from members?
I have to agree the forum is dull as death, but if its up to us then i guess we have no one to blame but ourselves.
At least the technical section had something usefull and that most people could tackle with the spring replacement.
However it would be more usefull to know how you can do the same job without using the Jag tool, that no one has and is expensive to buy and hire.

Heyro

Whilst there may be members of this Forum who agree with your opinion my understanding is that Bleasie was banned from another Forum for clear breaches of Forum etiquette, these included what were seen as personal attacks on other Forum members.
I can tell you as a new Forum member that I've been reading this Forum for long enough to know that this has not happened here. If it does, be assured that Forum rules will apply.
Until that time comes please be aware that all Forum members are entitled to post here.
Could I therefore ask that you bear this in mind in future postings.

I think that most of the magazine copy is produced by Nigel and a great job he does too. The advent of the model Forums provides an opportunity for more individual and focussed articles - eg spring compressors!. However it has long been thought by some of us that the Forum pages in the magazine should reflect more of what is happening on the on-line Forum and what those members are involved in. For this to happen, inevitably we must produce some of that copy. So anyone who can submit something to Paul for inclusion in our Forum magazine pages please do so. This spreads the load and I think more importantly means that an accurate reflection of what is happening in the Forum is produced. :)

Not sure how serious that bit about the springs was?

But a long time ago (back in '89) the magazine DID publish a very good method of extracting springs which required nothing more than four lengths of threaded rod and some nuts.

http://www.jec.org.uk/jecbb2/show-jearc.php?id=691

This has been taken up and published elsewhere:
http://www.jag-lovers.org/xjlovers/xjfa ... index.html

Unfortunately the JEC has moved in a different direction now and such work-arounds are often denigrated, usually by people who have never tried them or stand to make money from convincing others that 'it's far too difficult for you amateurs, better leave it to us professionals.'

As a result we don't see such things. Bob Bate did a fantastic article on the rear axle geometry a little while back. Unfortunately, it still required a camber gauge (expensive) and setting links (tedious to fabricate.) By luck, I happened on a method of measuring camber that didn't require the gauge and a way round the setting links issue. I offered to share this if anyone was interested. No one was. So perhaps the mag editor is right? Not many members are hands-on now, so a diet of show reports, travelogues, new car reviews and how to add Xmas-tree lights to an XK8 is what the majority are actually after.

Great post Al,
I for one am only to interested in getting my hands dirty and usually cut and bruised, but still they say no pain no gain.
I haven't looked at your links at time of reply, but its interesting that you say that somebody has already had a go at making there own compressors.
This is exactly what i have done in my companies workshop, and funnily enough i made it from very thick threaded rod, nuts and some thick but narrow steel plate.
Haven't tried it yet but will do at some point, no doubt i may have to modify my original effort slightly but still should work in the end.

I am sure there is quite a lot of people interesting in any or all technical info, and as i say espescially if its from a home mechanic, and using methods we can do in our own garages/drives. And using tools we can all source easily cheaply or already own.

Lets have a show off hands, and a quick count of all who are in favour of this sort of knowledge, help and experience?
I'm in, as the dragons den lot would say.

Hi and i very warm welcome to our forum heyro 1 sorry but i find your comments in very bad taste i have been a member of the Jec since it started my membership number being 502 over the last 15 years i have worked very hard on my car to get it to the condition it is now in and i feel that after all the effort over the years i am entiltled to some publicity as regards your comments towards mr Bleasdale i find them uncalled for he as spent the last 20 years dedicated to the jaguar XJ-SC and as spent endless hours of his time and money to help members world wide find details of there cars What is your problem if your not happy about the content in the magazine then why dont you do some thing about it and submit something to Nigel you refere to Bleasie being banned from another Forum yes true but only because of the way he worded his thoughts just to try and help some one wasting a lot of cash on an absolute rot box xjs If you own a Jaguar then why not write an artical about it my interest is in all classic cars The ball is in your court Regards Bryan Thomas JEC 502 XJ-SC 3.6 Mittsibishi VR4 2.5 ralliart estate

Hi DH

I'm so sorry, that through my actions I have wasted 2 seconds of your life.

However, compared to the time wasted on blather and bluster from one of our number, I don't feel so bad.

We are all entitled to our own damned fool opinions, but when voicing them, it is courteous to address the author of 'poor decisions', rather than use influence with our 'friends' on the Committee to inflate our own importance!

Sorry, too much red, has allowed me to break my own rules on 'netiquette'.

ps Pour encourager les autres, I, we, are not normally acerbic, and we welcome, constructive criticism, if offered honestly and with the wish to improve things.
