Postby mark.ellington589 » Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:07 am

Hi all
Sold my interceptor in October and bought a 1991 V12 XJS in December Reg J808 HSN. Starting to make my way around things however I have Perelli P600s 235/60 R15’s on it and they need to be changed pronto. What’s everyone using? It looks like a replacement is thin on the ground. Most are stating P600s are ‘coming soon’.

All advice welcome

mark.ellington589,

As you've probably realised, 235/60 15s are pretty difficult to find in a suitable speed and weight rating. There are very few decent tyres in the UK. There's a General Grabber & a Goodrich variant. Neither particularly high speed rating, although fine for UK road speeds, Weight rating is ok, but they're not very cheap.

It's why so many pre-facelift owners have moved to 16" rims and then used 225/55 tyres. I know that moves you away from oriiginal spec, but it might be inevitable soon with the industry move to much bigger wheels.

Good luck

Falken Ziex ZE310 Ecorun 225/60R15 96W

These seem to be the replacement of choice if keeping the 15" wheels

What’s the thoughts on Blockley 215/70R15?

Hi Mark, I don't think I would contemplate downgrading my tyre contact patch from 235 to 215 - 20mm is a significant reduction in the width of the tyre in my view.

I read that originally they were on 205s though. With the absence of 235s what to do?

Any advice? Wheel change? If so 16” and what’s the tyre size on these? They seem to be as rare as the tyres

There have been many previous threads about the same problem.
Have a look through the various XJS sections on here especially the Suspension sub-section.

Hi Mark, there is at least 2 x full set of (4) 16-inch XJ-S wheels listed on the Classifieds section of this website. Look under Wheels, Tyres and Brakes on the "Parts For Sale" tab. Both are priced at £995 and include tyres.

Hi Jim, why 16”? From what I can tell by extensive searches the 16” are no better re availability. I have access to a set of 16” and was getting ready to pull the trigger on them thinking that I would have access to quality tyres however for the life of me I can’t seem to see anything, hence the post. I was hopeful there was a hack I.e. what you need to do is…. But apparently not!

mark.ellington589,

I'm not sure what research you've done, but there are loads of options available for 16" rims on XJSs. This is why so many owners of earlier XJSs move to 16" rims. The standard XJS tyre is 225/55 R16 and a very quick check just now turned up at least 15 different manufacturers, from the usual budget suspects, then through to Falken, Yokohama, Kumho & Hankook, up to Bridgestone, Dunlop, Continental, Michelin & Pirelli. Have a look on Black Circles website.

Cheers

Thanks Paul very much appreciated. I could only see budget tyres with low speed rating and load. Something to ponder. Longstone have called me and said p600s 235/60 r15 will be available in March so a decision to be made as they want over £400/tyre

Mark,

It's good that they'll be available for those who really want them. I suspect at that price point, sadly, a lot of owners may wish (or need) to look at other options.

Cheers
