Cataclean - worth it or not

Postby leelane588 » Wed Nov 22, 2023 6:22 pm

Hi all,

Have a 2007 Jaguar XK 4,2 non XKR - just been serviced and been advised to run a catalean product through the car - No issues with car and running great - Run on Shell V-Power

I have never used Catalean and just wondered if anyone had or if its worth doing or just sticking with Premium fuel

Thanks in advance

My first question would be, what's the problem we're trying to fix here? Answer appears to be None!

Second set of queries, how do the MoT emission readings look? Ever been a problem? Any notable trend from year to year?

Then what sort of journeys and driving style does the car get? Short, slow journeys to the shops and back and not getting fully warmed up :( , or flat out for hours on end, on the way to the South of France? :)

I would say if the emissions show nothing of concern, the car runs well and it regularly gets a good Italian-Tune-Up on Premium petrol, leave the additives on the shelf.

If those questions don't the all the right answers, I would argue that a good long ITU should be the first port of call.

Agree with Astromorg on this. I have used it in the past on my XJR when it was flagging up an 02 sensor issue, but ended up changing the CATS anyway. If it ain’t broke…
