Compact A Overdrive. Solenoid operating lever adjustment

Postby mscantjagmk2 » Fri Apr 08, 2022 6:04 pm

The Jag manual does not describe how to set up the main operating valve shaft for the later Compact A O/D. This is carried out within the inspection chamber alongside the solenoid, after the removal of the 4 setscrews for the I/D plate, and not on the opposite side of the O/D body as described for the earlier unit. The correct alignment is given when the hole in the operating lever is matched with an indent in the casing when the overdrive is engaged. A short 1/8th in drill bit will do to pass through the hole in the lever and locate in the indent. A nyloc nut on the solenoid rod adjusts the amount of movement of the rod into the solenoid body. It is very simple to do with the car raised for access. I wish I had known this years ago, Searching the Forums and Tech advice I have yet to see any info on it although it may be there somewhere.
