KEY FOB REMOTE

Can anyone help in programming my key Fob on a 1996 XK8.

As suggested on a previous forum post if your key fob isn't working at a distance then send it into Autotronics for a service,which I have done.
the first time it came back it worked for about 3 days and then refused to work so i sent it back.

On its return it just refuses to programme am I doing it right for a 1996 model coupe.
1,Hold headlight flash to on
2,Put key into ignition and turn to position 1
3,Flash headlights about 4/5 times until red light appears on J gate
4,Press any key once on Remote ( no flash on J gate though)
5,Remove key
6, Remote still not working Help !!!

Its looks like I have found the problem and sorted it from a previous post.
This one works although when I tested the 2 batteries one had 2.4 v the other had 2.20V so I put two new ones in

Put key in Ignition
Flash and hold indicator
Turn Key to position 1
Flash Headlight 4/5 times and J gate lights up
Press unlock on the key fob 5 times and J gate flashes every time
Turn key to off and remove
Hey Presto it works

Well done for persevering with the programming and getting it done in the end.
I can remember doing mine for the XJ8 that it can be quite frustrating if it wont programme after a few attempts.
This is the official Jaguar instructions taken from their PDF.
Alarm Remote Manual Programming XK
XK8 1997-2006
• Insert key into the Ign.
• Pull the headlamp stalk towards the steering wheel.
• Whilst holding the headlight stalk in the position above, turn the Ign to Aux.
• With Ign in Aux, flash the headlights 3 times, an audible confirmation should be heard. [Sometimes this step requires flashing 4 times. SP 7/20/05]
• Press any button on the remote(s) to be programmed.
• After confirmation of the remotes programmed switch off the Ign,

o When carrying out the above process, please ensure that no other vehicles within a 50-meter radius are undergoing the same programming procedure; this could affect the programming operation.

Thought I'd post that if people have trouble in the futue
