The folly of commissioning the restoration of an XJS from a “Specialist” has been demonstrated by several recent auction sales, as follows:

The auctioneers advise that in 2014, the seller spent “the tidy sum of nearly £90k - yes that’s ninety thousand pounds sterling”. The car sold in September 2021 for £20,100.

The receipts show that in 2006 the seller paid a more modest £30k for extensive work. The car sold in July 2021.
Late Celebration convertibles appear to be most in demand, especially with a low mileage, as the following sale demonstrates:

Advertised by the auctioneers as having only 10,567 miles on the clock, the car sold in April 2021 for £44,800.
A low mileage Celebration convertible would definitely be my choice!
