My first Jag – Where will it all end?

Just thought I’d say hi. Bought my first Jaguar in January (a 2009 XF S Portfolio) and whilst I’ve always admired Jags I hadn’t really considered owning one until I realised how much car you can get for your money if you’re happy to buy a slightly older one. Anyway, I fell in love with this low mileage example but I swear that next time I buy a car I’m going to insist on cleaning it before I drive it away. To cut a l-o-n-g story very short, I decided that I couldn’t live with the paintwork, wanted it ‘spot on’ so had a full respray carried out. I’ve now spent far (far) more than I should have but I couldn’t be happier with the results. Cosmetically, all I have to do now is get the wheels refurbished and returned to their original colour and, hopefully, just clean and polish it. Other jobs need doing but older cars are always an ongoing project; saw James’ remap article in the magazine and have had to add that to the list. Totally fallen in love with the drive. It makes me smile every time I get in it. Lovely that there’s also a club like this one.

Welcome on board Graham. Nice looking XFS. Sad to say you are now hopelessly hooked like the rest of us! I started off with an S Type, which became an XF, then XF R Sport, then a 5litre XKR, an XFS, an F Type and finally an XJ! Lot of fun driving, but very empty cheque book! Enjoy your XFS. It is a very ‘sorted’ car. If you have it chipped, do write in and comment of any improvement. Since you have the S, you may not notice as much as James got out of his car. Be interesting to compare.

Thank you Ian, much appreciated. Goodness, that old cheque book of yours really has taken a hammering. Lovely selection of cars. Was looking for a photo of your XJ, have you got one on here somewhere? Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll have the remap so will keep you posted. Gotta do the wheels first. Can't live with them as they are for a moment longer than I have to. With every good wish.

I first drove a jaguar 3.8 in1962 it was my bosses son who on a Sunday used to play golf, and if I cleaned it I could use it for the rest of the.day
so that was it I was hooked, any way some 33 years later having been a company rep and receiving a company car every year, one day I visited my friends garage and there was a lovely 3.2 XJ for sale in kingfisher took it out for a test drive and it was mine, I kept it for a couple of years
and traded it in for an X 300 in red which my wife loved time moved on and I retired at 65 years sold the jag and bought a Renault Espace more
space needed Grand kids and such, time moved on more different cars but then one night on the computer I saw it in lancashire my dream car
a Jaguar 4.2 XF in light metallic blue normally aspirated 2008 year with every extra on it 97000 miles drives like a dream and now at the ripe
old age of 80 I'm a teenager again and it blows off all the teenage tearaways at the lights, I love it and people say to me why do you want a car
that does only 15 to the gallon, I could not care less at my age what else do you spend money, on I cant afford a Tesla all my old motor cycling friends have passed away so I will stick with my Jag.

Graham, Enjoy the ride, no matter what model a Jaguar is always something special. Hopefully you can take it around the block say 2021 or 2022
