Touch up paint

Postby paulfrost88960 » Mon Mar 09, 2020 2:02 pm

It appears that the rot has started (not literally i hope) as i have picked up some stone chips on the bonnet already. I rang SNG Barratt but they don't sell touch up paint. Does anyone know of a supplier?

Thanks

Paul

You can get colour matched aerosol paints online; you just have to supply the paint code.
Some car shops do them too but not Halfords.

As long as you know your paint code then you can get spray cans or touch up pens made up. This can either be online (I find eBay and Amazon useful) or some car accessory shops will mix it up while you wait.
As Steve says, Halfords no longer mix paint on the premises (backward step I feel as they used to) but I got some made up for my daughter's Mini at our local A1 Motor Store recently.
If you don't know how to find your paint code come back to us!

Just call me Mystic Meg!!
You are looking for the VIN plate something like the one below. At the bottom of the plate there is a 3 character code for the paint.
(PS the plate shown isn't from an XJS so don't worry if yours isn't exactly the same)

Paul,

You signature or post doesn't say what year model you have. Tell us what car you've got and we can tell you where to find that plate.

Cheers

Just to finalise this.....my Vin is on a small tag half way up the nearside A pillar tucked into the inside of the screen. In addition there is a plate on the nearside innerwing with various codes on, but it just has a gap where you would think the paint code shoud be! I therefore checked in Nigel Thorley's book which said it was either signal red or grenadine red in 1988. Looked online and signal red looked right so ordered the paint and it's ok, paint code CFC. Of course whilst touching in chips on bonnet i managed to get a small amount of paint onto a huge amount of surfaces; mainly my hands, but also chrome, plastic, clothes. How i laughed!
