Hi,
I'd like to poll the club on a matter.. i recently took my XJ-S in for a service at the Jag Workshop in Ealing.
My background is - i bought my first classic car last October and whilst i love driving and owning it - i have little experience in maintenance.
So i wanted an expert eye run over it.
So i went for one of their (expensive) services.
I also asked them to fix the leak in the Power steering / Transmission fluid system (it tends to empty after about 2-3 weeks).
They did the work and with regards to the Power steering fluid they told me 'all it needed was a jubliee clip replacing, so that's all sorted for you'.
It's still leaking away.
Am i not right in assuming that they need to take the car back and do a proper job gratis? Advice?
thanks
Michael

Michael,
Sorry to hear of your problems; here's my initial thoughts:
Whilst we'd like to think that a garage would do a thorough investigation and perhaps look beyond an obvious fault, at least they haven't apparently ripped you off by charging you for unnecessary work. If there was a fault with the jubilee clip, that COULD have explained the leak, so at least that's sorted.
I would certainly take the car back to them and explain the continuing leak. But it may be expecting far too much for them to do any remedial work for free, particularly if there ae parts required. Just my opinion.
Good luck Michael
Paul

No you can't expect them to "gratis" now fix the fault that's still there on the basis that they only charged for changing a jubilee clip plus say a minimum of a ½ hour previously.
If the leech at that point is still there (does it empty your power steering resovoir in three weeks? If so it's not
just a leech) It'd mean probably changing the hose next if still wet with fluid at that point.
Faults like this can be progressive -- remove the source of a leak and the pressure can show itself further up the pressure chain -- eg in this case perhaps now fluid coming more out of the other end of the same hose
