A 'hot' smell when the sunroof is open

Postby Philp1965 » Sat Apr 26, 2008 11:02 pm

I'm not sure what it is but if I drive along with the sunroof open, I get a smell in the car. The only way I can describe it is that its like hot paint. I don't know where its coming from - the car had a respray a few years ago but surely any overspray would have gone/been burnt off by now. Its definitely a 'hot' sort of smell. Whether its paint or not I'm not sure. It could be exhaust fumes I suppose - but coming in through the sunroof?? In any case the smell is the same at 10mph as it is at 80mph. I'm stumped! Phil

Having a window or sunroof open often causes air to be drawn out of the car and a slight depression occurs in the cab. Not to be cofused with the depression that set in every time you pay for fuel!!
If there is a fault with body sealing then exhaust or engine fumes can be drawn in, it might even be coming through the transmission tunnel if one of the bits of rubber is on the way out.
Or it could be something else completely of course, i reserve the right to be completely worng again;)
