updating my aircon Help needed

Postby daimlerdrew » Sun Dec 30, 2018 1:55 am

The a/c pump on my '92 XJ40 4 litre has gone up the spout, so i may as well change all the relevant parts and upgrade the system to take the latest coolant. Can somebody please tell me what parts i'll need to change (pump's already off) and how to get all the old coolant from the system so it can be re-filled safely? Can anybody suggest where i can get all the parts at a reasonable price too?
Happy New Year everybody, looks like it's going to be an expensive one. :?

Your very lucky if it still had the original R12 refrigerant! Anyway the good news is take it to an independent aircon place they will change the lubricant and reservice it with R134.
As you have the old compressor off there won’t be anything left in the system. The servicing involves vacuuming the system IIRC to remove moisture then lubricant then the regas!

Sorry for the slow response. I have sent the compressor away to be re-conditioned and fixed to take the new stuff, got to replace a few other bits as well but they're pretty cheap compared to the compressor fix. Might even be able to drive the car more than 250 miles a year from now on. Or maybe i'll just sell it as i have other more usable cars.
