Upper column bearings

Hi All..S2 xj6.. upper steering column has 2 tapered roller bearings....they have a plastic cage which is unusual.....they need replaceing..any one done this.....where can i get the bearings...the usual suppliers dont have them.....thanks...Steve

I don't recall Jaguar ever supplying taper roller bearings for the column, just the plain upper bushes so I suspect you will have to find an equivalent bearing via a friendly bearing factor. Mike.

I suspect you are referring to the taper roller bearings that are part of the collapsible steering column assembly; these bearings position the inner shaft in the outer column. Being part of a safety critical assembly they were never available separately only as part of the column. I suspect your only hope is a salvage yard.

Hi...yes its the taper roller bearings.....the column is simple to dismantle just a tiny circlip to remove at the bottom then it all comes apart.....yes a breakers is a route i could take.....anyone out there dismantled theirs for a refurb and managed to find a supplier..thanks.... Steve
