I was looking for some info on valve timing, and came across, this web page.
It certainly isnt very complimentary on AJ6's engineering efforts.

Hi wouldnt take too much notice of it. It is hardly a considered opinion.I usually find out that the ones who talk loudest are boosting their egos. I have dealt with Roger Bywaters company and found it very proffesional. regards Kels.

I have no dealings with them at all, but it just makes me wonder.

Was hoping some members would come on either recommending the AJ6 stuff, or otherwise.
Its good for us all to know weather any of this aftermarket stuff works well or not, and if it is a good investment or not.
I would like to modify/ improve my car further.
However i hate wasting money, or buying something that does'nt improve performance.
I was thinking of buying there (aj6) throttle pot mod, and air filter.
But now i have doubts.
I wonder if i should forward the web page to AJ6? maybe they havent seen it and would like to respond?
Also i wonder if AJ6 would like to offer a discount to JEC members?

You wont go too far wrong buying a throttle pot and air filters they are hardly leading edge technology. I dont believe the throttle pot is there to enhance performance, surely its just a replacement.
Jaguar World tested Aj6s ecu and wide body throttle mod and approved it. They gave before and after figures.
Roger Bywater is highly regarded on the Jag-lovers site where he often advises owners on technical points.
Dont you think it strange the critiscisms are so vitriolic? regards Kels

it did seem pretty full on with criticisms. But I think you would have heard this all before, as there are a big player in the market. My guess its ok stuff.

Think I will post the web address/page to AJ6, only fair they can defend themselves, I am sure they will find it interesting reading too.
I am also fairly sure there stuff will be ok, presumably they must be Jag enthusiasts themselves to set up a company doing this stuff.
While on about perfomance improvements, i have heard that like the Aj6 wide throttle mod.
You can do a similar thing if you have a 3.6 like mine by swapping the throttle body with one off a 4ltr?
Also its my understanding that the AJ6 throttle pot, is just a modification/replacement that just uses a standard pot.
The jag pot i think has a wider swing/arc from one end to another, a regular pot is a shorter sweep hence the cam/shaft mod with aj6s replacement.
Also added advantage if AJ6 pot fails you can just go to Maplin or similar and get a standard pot to replace it.

As a BB member:
I have not bought anything from AJ6 engineering, however I have spoken to them on the phone a few times as regards potential upgrades to my car and also sought their views as to exhaust systems. On these occasions, I have found them very helpful, knowledgeable (in my humble opinion) and with no heavy pressure to purchase. The sheer number of articles and adverts of cars for sale which make reference to the use of AJ6 parts would lead to me to believe that there are a significant number of satisfied customers.
As BB moderator:
One of the benefits of the BB is the means by which it enables members to share with others both good and bad experiences of ownership, parts, suppliers etc. If anyone wants to post their personal viewpoint of AJ6 engineering (either negative or positive) as a contribution to this thread, that's fine - it's what the BB is here for. However, we do need to recognise that as a club website, we should always think carefully before commenting. The initial link to the third-party website is not the personal view of one of our members. I am not comfortable that this BB should have a link to a website that publishes what are emotive, largely unsubstantiated viewpoints, using inappropriate language and with very personal comments being passed about another individual. I suspect that some of those comments are tantamount to libel.
I have therefore reluctantly decided to intervene and edit the first post to remove the link. I have also amended the title of the post. Unlike many other websites (including Jaguar-related ones!), this is the first time that we have felt the need to do this. I'm sorry if you don't agree with my viewpoint, ladies & gents. It's one of the dubious privileges of being moderator!

I actually spoke with AJ6 later on the day i posted the link, and gave them the web'link to have a look at.
They had not seen or known about it but were aware of this chap.
Apparently he is in russia, and has also upset a lot of people in the JAG racing circuit.
And as they said at AJ6 he seems to have a bee in his Bonnet about us!

Hello Paul, I sort of understand your view, however If some one has bought a duff part AJ6 Engineering or any other manufacture we should have a right be able hear about it and give are view. Otherwise it gets one sided.
As you said "The sheer number of articles and adverts of cars for sale which make reference to the use of AJ6 parts would lead to me to believe that there are a significant number of satisfied customers. "
I too have never bought parts from them, but we should still hear both arguments from both parties. The good, the bad, and the ugly. So it leads me to conclude that I think its wrong to remove that link.
Phil
P.S i have up date my details and have some photos of Florence (Car)

Phil,
Tks for your post. Perhaps I hadn't made my position clear. I do agree that members should be able to post their views, either positive or negative, about any aspect of XJS ownership, including experience of suppliers. However, it needs to be done within the bounds of reasonable behaviour. Hopefully my post expressed that.
My issue is that the link is not the viewpoint of one of our members, it's something that has been found on the internet, written by a 3rd party. The views are too emotive and unsubstantiated, and the langauage is inappropriate to the point of libel. It's for all of those reasons that I feel as a JEC website, we would be acting inappropriately to publish such a link. I think mrb39 has also done the right thing by privately making AJ6 aware of the website and asking them for comment.
As a matter of due process, I will raise this matter to the main JEC Committee just to make them all aware of the situation. If they feel we should reinstate the link, then I will do so.
Phil, Tks also for updating your vehicle records.

I think the important point of this post needs to be re emphasised (hope that's spelt right)
And that is not to slag off or condemn AJ6, but as a owner who was about to shell out for some of there products(some of these are quite expensive too).
Find out weather anyone has any experience of owning and using this stuff.
I cant speak for anyone else, but i don't have a lot of money to throw around, so the last thing i would want is to buy something that either does'nt do what it says on the tin or is no improvement.
I am sure there are a lot of other people on here , would like to know what products other people recommend and which one 's they condemn.
Maybe a new forum topic Best and worst buys section??

P.s. I am not bothered one way or the other if the link is removed, as it was not posted in any way to rattle anyone's cage or upset AJ6.

Gents,
I am informed that the chap with the poor opinion of AJ6 is well known in the industry, some of my collegues have first hand experiance of both his opinions and his engineering ability. The polite sumary is that it probably is not worth spending any time listening to him.
Hope that helps.
