Hi everyone,
Just joined the forum. Thanks!
My name is Jeroen Dorrestein, I am Dutch, former chief engineer in the Dutch merchant navy, but for the last 20 years or so working in the Telecom industry. Married to Frances who is British. Currently we are living in the Netherlands. The past 10 years we lived in Kansas City, USA and Delhi, India and early eighties also four years in Brighton, UK.
Whilst in Kansas City I bought a gorgeous 2002 XJR from Ebay and used it as my daily drive. When we moved to Delhi, I shipped the Jaguar to my home country, the Netherlands, where it was in storage for almost four years. Only saw the occasional use when we visited the Netherlands on holiday.
Since mid 2016 we are back in the Netherlands and have moved house again, but still in the Netherlands. Our new house also has my dream garage I wanted for a very long time. Next to the Jaguar I also own a 1982 Mercedes W123 and a 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider. I like to work on all my cars myself.
I still maintain a thread on my favourite Indian car forum about what I call “fiddling with my cars”. The thread starts when we had just moved back to the Netherlands, but is up to date with everything that I have been doing on my three cars until this very weekend. Indian knows many petrol heads, but not many are doing DIY stuff on their cars, let alone major jobs. So this thread always gets a lot of attention.

The Jaguar has proven to be pretty reliable. In all since 2009 when I bought it has done some 60.000 miles. (total now 156.000).
Initially it suffered from Fail safe problems. I managed to convince Jaguar USA to swap my throttle body which they did. Some months later I was getting more fail safes. By then I had invested in an Autoengenuity ODB scanner and could read the Jaguar and generic codes myself. This was the known brake microswitch problem.Easy fix. Never any further fail safes until recently. I did invest in the best battery money can buy. Keep it on a fancy trickle charge always. And every year clean all the earthing points, pull/push relais etc. These cars are very finicky when it comes to getting a good voltage out to the various components.
Earlier this year I replaced the hydraulic hoses on the oil cooler and also replaced the super charger cooling water pump. Both jobs are detailled out on the Indian website. Plus the usual routine maintenance.
Lately my Jaguar is going into Fail safe again. The dreaded P1121. I have done all the usual stuff. Took all the connectors of the throttle body, check cleaned them. Took the connectors of the ECM, checked them cleaned. Opened up the ECM and checked for any cracks in the soldering etc. Check/cleaned all the usual earth points. Checked through the live function of my Autel OBD scanner the various signals from the sensors on the throttle body. (pushed the accelerator very slow in and watched for any jumps). All seems fine
All I managed to find so far is that one connector on the throttle body has a broken retaining clip. Not sure if I broke it disconnecting it, or whether it was broken before. Solved it for now by tying it down with a tie-wrap.

I have been in touch with my local specialist. The same guy that features in my “fiddling thread” on the workshop for autoboxes. He believes I might have to face another body throttle replacement. On the American Jaguar forums I keep reading of guys having their body throttles overhauled. I have reached out to one of these companies, but no reply so far. If anything it means shipping it across the big pond twice.
Are there any companies in the UK (or Europe) that can help out repairing/overhauling a throttle body. In particular the various sensors of course.
Thanks, look forward to being active on the forum!

And welcome!Hi everyone, Just joined the forum. Thanks!
I don't know about reconditioning of a throttle body. But I see a reconditioned one costs upwards of £350 with guarantee +VAT. I recently bought a known good working throttle body C2A1470 from a XJ8 2001MY that had terminal rot to its floor pan. Owner was parting out. But when I removed from my car I could see that there was too much dirt and old collected oil on the body. So cleaned that out, cleaned the butterfly valve flap. Replaced and my throttle action was much better! So I have a spare now. See my webmail to you.
