MASS AIR FLOW METER
Moderators:MarkX, mike020150
Hi i have a 2007 xkr two fault codes have come up P0171 P0174,computer says system too lean bank1 and bank 2. I take it there's no easy way of finding a leak as i guess it isn't bound to be the sensors.

Re: MASS AIR FLOW METER
If the fault codes read lean, you have all the usual possibilities to check, from leaking vacuum pipes to blown exhaust manifold gaskets, in addition to the lambda sensors & maf. However, since lambda sensors are just like spark plugs (their performances deteriorate steadily), if they are the original 2007 items, they have to be pretty high up the list of suspects. Mike.

Leaks in the induction system can be checked by a specialist with a smoke machine. It pumps smoke into the inlets and then you look for any smoke emerging from any joins, splits etc.
Re: MASS AIR FLOW METER
If the code result is definitely fuel mixture lean on one or both banks then I suspect this is because of a particular leaking vacuum pipe.
The first place to look is quite easy and if its what I think it is, it is also an easy and cheap fix.
Remove the XKR plastic engine cover. Shine a torch down onto the top of the supercharger unit. Just to the drivers side of where the letters V8 are embossed on top of the supercharger look down and you should see a thin plastic pipe with rubber connector on the end attached to the side of the SC housing. I'm guessing all you'll see is a shiny metal nozzle sticking out where the rubber connector has come off.
If that is the case, have good look around in the dip as it will be in there somewhere, there's no way out for it. You will see the plastic pipe laying along the gulley next to the SC. You should be able to re-attach the rubber elbow to the pipe and push it back onto the SC nozzle as a temporary fix. Secure it with a cable tie or two. Once the cable tie is tight, pull it off the nozzle, tighten it just one more click, then push it back on. It should stay put okay but it is obviously very worn.
After while the EMU warning light should go out.
The replacement part is still available from Jag dealers, cost about £24 and is part number AJ811093. It is quite easy to remove the old part and refit the new part. Be sure to pull the protective cover off the other end of the vacuum pipe before fitting.
I hope this helps, good luck.

DRIVE/SUPERCHARGER BELTS
Hi is it quite a straight forward job to change the two belts on my 2007 xkr?

Changing the belts is reasonably straightforward as long as you have suitably long tools and a strong right arm to hold back the tensioners. If the belts are well worn, changing the tensioners too wouldn't be a bad plan. Don't forget to draw a pic of the belt routeing before you start. Mike.
