ADSL signal fail - Help!

Postby poprivet » Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:07 am

Is there anyone here with BT / broadband skills?

The last week I've been having a problem with the broadband failing. Its not too bad first thing in the morning but as the day goes on its becoming completely unusable.

I reported the fault to my ISP and after some tests they said there was definitely a problem. The BT engineer came out but couldn't really find any thing wrong, he replaced the master socket and went. The problem is still as bad as before. I've tried connecting the modem directly to the BT line by removing the faceplate and plugging it in direct. Same problem exists.

Could it be the modem failing? I don't mind getting a new one, but I would have thought it would either work or not. I tried a gentle tapping in case of a poor connection and have also tried different cables and ADSL filter but its the only thing I can think of that I can try.

Any ideas please?

ADSL signal fail - Help!

Have you tried pluging in the modem directly to telephone socket without ANY of the ADSL filters pluged in anywhere in house as these often fail.

Also have you clicked diagnose connection problem on the fail to connect screen I used this and it idintified a fault on modem to computer cable.

Hope this helps.

Great to read your article in mag.

Regards Mark.

ADSL signal fail - Help!

Problem sorted.
I'll try to keep it short!

1. My ISP did a line test, 'yes, definitely a problem with the line'.

2. 1st BT man visits, 'No problem with the line, I've changed the master socket as it was old, the problem is your internal wiring because someone has used alarm wire'.

3. I cart the whole computer system to the master socket and plug it in directly without any internal wiring connected - problem still there.

4. My ISP does another line test, 'yes, definitely a problem with the line'.

5. 2nd BT man visits, 'No problem with the line, I've replaced the cable to the pole outside as it was old, the problem is your internal wiring because someone has used alarm wire'.

6. I explain again that we have eliminated that, reluctantly he tests from the far end 'No problem with internal wiring, your modems faulty'.

7. Well, it was an old modem and I was thinking about changing it to a Firewall Router anyway, so I go shopping and spend a good half day setting it all up - problem still there.

8. My ISP does another line test, 'yes, definitely a problem with the line', Let me try a re-set at our server here'.

9. No more problem! (I just wish they had done that in the first place  )
