Restoration Show at NEC

Postby davidr » Tue Mar 20, 2018 8:58 pm

I shall be on the Club stand at the NEC all 3 days this weekend and I'd love to see you there! Our stand is right in the middle of the hall and we'll be there to welcome you, have a chat and answer any questions.
David Marks will also be there, spanner in hand, giving practical demonstrations and answering questions. For those of you who know don't know David, he is our technical expert and has a fantastic practical knowledge of the XJS from working on them for decades. It's well worth coming just to pick his brains.
We will have the raffle car (F Type convertible) on the stand so you can fall in love with its lucious red curves, buy a raffle ticket and hope!
All I have to hope is that my liver will withstand a "quiet night in" with Mr Jenner :D
Look forward to seeing you there.

What a great weekend! It was great to meet so many members and chat about your cars.
We also managed to nearly double the raffle tickets sales versus the same event last year so many thanks to all of you who dug into your pockets! What struck me was how our chosen charity (Macular Society) connected with so many people who either had macular degeneration themselves or knew somebody who did. The combination of a really good cause and the shiny red F Type made selling the tickets a doddle!
I was lucky enough to go to the National Car Club Awards on Saturday evening to represent the Club and we didn't come away empty handed! The Club was nominated for 4 awards (Best single event (Windsor), Best Magazine, Best Contribution to Charity and Nigel Thorley for Best Club Ambassador) and came away with the Best Contribution to Charity Award and Nigel Thorley (our magazine Editor) was given the Ambassador Award for his tireless promotion of our Club and the Jaguar marque over decades of devotion - a well deserved award and congratulations Nigel! Whilst we were hoping that we would get the event award for Windsor we felt that the charitable award was a recognition of Windsor and the great efforts made across the Club to raise money for our good causes not just last year but every year.
We were also very pleased to have our stand Highly Commended for David Marks' demonstration of how to change a wheel bearing on XJ8/XK8. This always drew a crowd and was very well done.
The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club was the only club of any marque to receive more than one award which brought home to me what an excellent club we have. No other Jaguar club was even nominated let alone got an award!
I thought that my liver and head would be the things to suffer after a couple of nights of Mr Jenner's company but it is actually my feet that are still hurting!
