The yellow ABS and red exclamation mark lights comes on at ignition then go out after a few seconds on my 89 XJ-S. The lights do not come on at any other time. Any suggestions as to to what might be causing this? The brake fluid level is above max, so I assume that's not the issue.

Milan,
Isn't that what they are supposed to do? I'm not too sure about '89 models but all cars that I know with ABS will illuminate the ABS & brake check lights on at ignition start up and then the lights will go out after a pre-determined time or when the car reaches, say, 8 mph. If you check your handbook, I suspect you'll find that your car is behaving as per normal.

Yep Paul`s correct. If either don`t come on & stay on for a small time at start up, or stay on all the time you`ve got problems.
