I have an issue the last few days with my 07 S type. Car has several times simply gone dead on me as though battery totally flat. However after a period of time (10 minutes or so) it kicks back into action, starts fine and appears all normal other than system reset code required to get audio, nav etc back. Is this just indicative of a near dead battery? Last time the alarm suddenly went off prior to it coming back.
Any comments welcome.

Re: Battery related issues
Greg,
Suggest you begin by disconnecting battery terminals and clean up any corrosion that might be present between the battery terminal posts and the connectors. Also check the ground connection to the chassis for similar issues.
This cold weather will drop terminal voltages by the very nature of battery construction. Even a decent premium battery is probably only reliable for about eight years at the most. Do you know how old your battery is? Buying a battery drop tester from eBay for around £15 is money well invested. You will be able to see how a battery performs under artificially applied load if you get one. I can advise on the test procedure if required. Well worth having one of these tools on the garage shelf.
I strongly suggest that if you buy a new battery that you buy only a premium grade unit such as a Bosch Silver or Varta Blue type with "silver" construction technology. Our electronically dependent cars need this level of battery sophistication due to the electrical current greed of in built electronic components. As I recall, you will probably need an 096 size unit for the S-type. Please check though before buying.
The winter tests batteries to the limit. It will find any weakness or old age deterioration in a battery as soon as the ambient temperatures drop to near sub zero levels. You will also find a new premium battery will help prevent spurious electronic faulting and make for a more reliable car. So grab a drop tester or have the battery tested at a garage as a first move and replace if at all suspect.
Hope that helps.
