How to remove this trim?

Postby MichaelSB » Tue Nov 28, 2017 5:16 pm

I need to remove the triangle shaped plastic trim at the front top of the window door guide rail on my 1995 convertible XJS, the inside one is screwed on but I am not sure how to remove the outside one.
Has anyone done this and how? Please
Michael

Hi Michael - I'm not quite sure what you mean. Any chance of a photo? I have dismantled this area before but I'm not sure which bit you're trying to get off?

Hi David
I am not to good at getting photos on the forum but the part I am trying to remove is a black plastic triangle shaped trim it is at the top of the door and it I think maybe be part of something called a cheater rail which guides the electric window down into the door, it is very near the door mirror. Thanks
Michael

By "top of the door" do you mean a black triangle about 2 to 3 inches on a side just at the front of the glazed area, i.e. a fillet between the door glass and the door frame? If so, it is the cheater, and all you have to do is unscrew the inner one to expose the screws holding the outer one. There's probably a whole load of sticky sealant as well. Mine is metal, not plastic.

I think it will also be necessary to take the door card off so you can get to the lower fixings that attach near the bottom of the door. See exploded diagram below
