Headlamp removal and clean out

Postby johnkershaw » Wed Jun 07, 2017 9:26 am

Hello

I have a 2006 XK and one of the headlight lenses looks slightly opaque compared to the other. The other which looks a lot brighter/cleaner I suspect is a replacement which highlights why the two look different.

Is it possible to remove the lens from the unit and give it and the insides a good clean? It looks to me that dirt has got in somehow over the years and dulled the inside of the glass and the reflectors. I have had the outside given a polish up but it has made no difference.

They are the adaptive headlamps if that makes a difference...

Thanks in advance!

Cleaning the insides of a headlight is not so easy.

I did have some success using a table spoon of baking soda in a cup of white vinagar on one occasion. A swill around for ten minutes and then a fresh water wash out improved things somewhat. After that I sat the headlight units on the boiler for a couple of days to ensure any moisture had been driven out. Might be worth a try?
