Coolant warning light malfunction

Postby john.tudgay@live.co.uk » Mon May 15, 2017 10:29 am

Hi Im new having just purchased a 2004 2.5 V6 Sport. The coolant light will come and go as it pleases. I have replaced the coolant tank with a new tank and of course float but the problem persists. Today checked coolant level drove 1/2 mile downhill to destination coolant light came on even with engine not yet hot. Checked level in tank and all ok. Rad is showing a slight leak and I will replace this. Pressure in system seems very high with some spitting through cap but this still doesn't account for todays journey experience does it?

having replaced the tank and float sensor, and your confident you don't have any major fluid loss, then the only remaining conclusion is that the sensor wiring is shorting to the body some how, as the reed switch simply makes a connection to ground bring on the dash light

if this is being ' bypassed ' by a faulty or damaged wire, then that could be your problem

Many thanks for that Ill just disconnect and trust in the temp gauge. It seems the only logical conclusion to the issue John

cool

if you unplug and the light still flashes it would prove a short to ground in the wiring

Spitting through the cap sounds a bit serious, could be a head gasket problem.
