So I was cleaning the car 2 days ago STR 2003 and the engine reed up by itself made a chugging sound a nd continued on a higher rev...got in the car pressed accelerator and no response...also engine fault...brake fault sign...tried hard re start battery off cured on restart..

But what would cause this?

Start by removing the plugs on the throttle body and air flow meter. You may find a build up of corrosion present. This lack of contact if corroded could be enough to cause the ECU to glitch for a few seconds and jack the throttle to keep the car running.

Ensure your battery is fully charged if you use the car for short journeys. Use a mains charger for a few hours a week of the car is doing short journey work during cold weather periods.

See how you get on with those ideas. Come back to us again if issues persist.
