Plastic sheet inside the Doors.

Postby selminer » Wed Feb 15, 2017 5:11 pm

I have just had the interior replaced in my 2+2 but the waterproof membrane has not been fitted in the doors.
I know from asking that this sheet of plastic should fit inside the doors and not next to the door card.
But I do not know where to fix it or the shape of it. I have been told that 2 pieces should be fitted as this makes it easier but
it still appears a difficult task.
Any tips would be gratefully received.

Thanks for reading even if you are unable to help.

Hello Selminer,

I note your post is a year+ old so hopefully you've resolved your problem by now.

I am in the same position having just had a full retrim on my S1.5 FHC 2+2. I've been messing with cars for 40+ years and have never seen the membrane (where its still in place) positioned anywhere other than between the door card and the inner door skin. I recently visited New Forest Classic Cars (they do high end E Type restorations) to ask them, and they fitted double sided tape to the inner door skin and also provided the membrane, for free!!! What nice people!! Mind you I have used them before for PAID work.

Where did you hear the membranes should be inside the door out of interest? It must be a devil to fit, if you are right.

Cheers
Mark
