Daimler Super V8 hunting at tick over

Postby Orkney » Fri Jul 08, 2016 6:39 pm

Hi folks ,
Had a great trip down to Scottish Jaguar day in Doune and met up with friends old (Rob?) and new.
The car started hunting on tick over and playing up uncharacteristically but still ran well while on the move.
Suspected induction air leak but fuel consumption stayed put at 22.9 overall, so I left it till we got home, other than having the usual cursory glance for anything obvious.
On return to Orkney I sprayed easy start around some of the easily accessible vac pipes to no avail. Out of devilment I sprayed some over the supercharger elbow seals and hey presto! the revs rose.
As usual on return from a trip there was the normal pile of mail but not until the following day did I see the JEC mag and the article on the very same fault on the XKR convertible.
I had even ordered my seal kit from the same source! ( note to self - buy a lottery ticket!)
Anyway the kit arrived today and took about an hour to fit and I replaced the flanged clamp bolts with Stainless Allen cap screws lubed with Duralac barrier paste.
Off for a test drive, everything better than normal, even the brakes, so this vac leak must have been getting steadily worse and some of those 370 horses must have been having a kip at the back of the stable.
