Well I did the job today, sill covers off and a little bit of rust at the jacking points the rest of the sills were perfect. So wire brushed and treated with Granville Rust Remover then Waxoiled. I bought a pack of clips from my local dealership, about twenty quid and guess what, none of the original clips broke, sods law or what. But worth every penny for piece of mind. :D

Hang out the flags folks, Jeff1154 has had the sills off at last. I've just re-read this thread and noticed that you threatened to do this job over a year ago - on my birthday no less !

I'm pleased for you' in that you have found no nasty's. Well done and as you say peace of mind.

Now, just a little bit more info. I recently had the front wing liners out along with the front plastic bumper and under panels. Why, you might ask - well the screen washer performance was poor so I deduced that it must be the pump. Well it wasn't, I eventually discovered that the near side bonnet hinge had guillotined half way through the feed hose.

So what has this to do with sills ? Whilst the wing liner was out I noticed that there is access into the sill end. This allowed my long probe to pass the length of the sill on the inner side of the strengthening rib which divides the sill cavity into two . Another coating of Waxoil just to make sure

Perhaps a job for the future

Oldtimer

PS. Good luck with your new motor

That's interesting Oldtimer, this would allow access with a Drainage type Camera Probe to see condition of the inside before taking the Plastic Covers off.

Thanks Oldtimer for your applause (if that's the the right word) I have mentioned in the past somewhere on the forum, that my car was fitted with mud flaps all round from new. I think that this has gone a long way over the years in protecting the front part of the sills.

Cheap enough on ebay. Plug direct into a laptop or stand alone versions available.
