And Jags of the E Type and Mk 10 variety feature prominently on "5.15 a.m", the opening track on Mark Knopfler's Shangri-La album; (not Five-Fifteen by the Who)!! - The track is based on a true story of a London jack-the-lad who went up to geordie-land in the 60's to get in on the fruit machine racket and ended up full of bullet holes for his trouble.

NB the same story featured int he last series of "george gently" with Martin Shaw....

PS Best Album Ever - come on Fleetwood Mac - really!! - its got to be Exile on Main Street with Achtung Baby a close second........

I have two of the 1994 albums mentioned in the earlier post in my collection. It is hard to nominate a firm favourite as I have in excess of 5,000 songs on my IPod. The most regularly played may well be Northern Soul or Mowtown songs or anything with a good guitar solo (e.g. Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young or perhaps Another Girl, Another Planet by the Only Ones).

I would rate the T Rex album Electric Warrior highly. That is not solely about the music but about memories of life in the sixth form at the time it was released and going to see T. Rex in concert at the Odeon in Birmingham. I say “going to see” because you could not hear the music for all the girls repeated screaming “Mark, Mark”. Mark Bolan is sadly no longer with us following his untimely death in a car accident. In the late John Peels autobiography, “Margrave of the Marshes”, he refers to playing Scalextric with Mark Bolan. Apparently they were both great friends and enjoyed racing each other. This conjures up an amusing mental image. There I digress and must go and do something useful like clean my car.

Ray
Two great nominations there

David
5000 songs! How on earth do you set up your playlists?

I guess we're all influenced by memories and events and the music that went along with them.
I was tempted to nominate a Rory Gallagher album. One of my great heroes who I was lucky enough to see live several times in the seventies, at his peak I think. What a GREAT guitarist and yet another untimely death. Unfortunately I don't think he managed the best album ever.....but if blues guitar is your thing, electric or acoustic, he truly will be remembered as one of the greats. RIP.

I see no mention of Ginger, Jack and Eric here. Now they could make a noise. :)

Cream certainly feature on my IPod Gordon. Good to see Eric Clapton on Top Gear this week.
Of course there is no truth in the suggestion that Cream performed the theme tune to the well loved Birmingham based Soap Opera :-)

Anorak facts:

The Crossroads theme was added as the final track for Paul McCartney and Wings' album Venus and Mars.

The late Carl Wayne was married to the former Crossroads actress Sue Hanson and had a small part in the soap as a milkman.

You are right about the crossroads theme. As for Sue Hanson, well we wont go there :) My other favourite has to be Sgt Pepper. I know others might not agree, but it wouldn't do if we all had the same favourites. My just recently bought Cream (Royal Albert Hall) 2005. DVD
PS Jack recently performed in Glasgow.

Ray,
Achtung Baby, what an album!! The live version of Love is blindness is stunning, Edge (not normally noted for his solo's) simply makes his guitar weep.
I am always torn between "Rattle and Hum" and "Achtung baby" as their best album.

Simply stunning.

Tony, playlists can be a bit complicated but the iTunes Genius comes up with some interesting results.

Hi David

Thanks for that :D

Genius is another bit of gadgetry that I have yet to explore and master. There are so many things buried in our gadgets today that I'm sure most of us only scratch the surface.

It's the same with DSLR cameras.
