That wasn't very good file management was it?

Here are a couple more pics. If there's a particular part of the car you'd like to see - let me know!

Terry,

It would be useful to see a picture of the front seats, its difficult to say but if you don't have the embossed 'R' on the front seats, either they are from a different S Type (non STR) or the STR seats have been completely recovered.

Hi Doug,

This car I have here is an original off the Castle Bromwich factory floor unit. The only thing that's been modified is the exhaust - it has an awesome sounding Paramount sport exhaust.

I know what a normal STR inside looks like. I've seen many STR's. This is my second S-Type, and my fourth Jag. I'm a Jag lover like you. My STR is unusual, that's for sure, but it's not some sort of project car or something someone modified. As far as I know, this car was destined to be a part of the Jaguar Heritage collection. It sat in Jaguar's showroom from June 29 2007 when it was built, until December 2008, when the guy I bought it from bought it from Jaguar Cars Ltd. It was never handed over to Jaguar Heritage because they got notice that they were going to loose their facility and they couldn't accept anymore cars. It has a Jaguar Cars Ltd registration plate.

I have a feeling this is the last STR built. So far nobody has come forward with an STR built after June 29 2007. Hence my quest...

I'm abroad right now, but when I get home I'll take more pics of the inside, so that you can see there are no normal "R" designations inside. I hope that next summer I can join you and some other STR owners at one of the JEC events so that you can see this car for yourself, and I can see your beautiful STR. This car has a genuine 10,000 miles on the clock, and it looks like a car with only 10,000 miles on it. It is an STR with a luxury interior, looks real nice, but unusual, maybe one of a kind.

Hi Guy's
This one has woken me from my slumber, normally a voyer I have felt compelled to add my two penneth worth.

An interasting car Terry,
It seems to me you do have the High Luxury Pack fitted to your STR, the creases in the base of seats go back to front and not side to side like the Sport and R leather.
The luxury pack has Soft grain leather, premium carpet mats, Walnut veneer trim/gear leaver and half walnut stearing wheel all of which are fitted in your car.
I have a PDF price list from June 2005 which states the luxury pack is not available for the STR.
I don't know if this was still the case in 2007 I,d bought my STR by then so I don,t have the broucher.
However I was told by a Jaguar dealer back in 2005 that they could accomodate a special order for for Cranberry Two Tone interior trim, which had been deleated with the 2004 facelift cars so it would be possible for the right money or client this was a special order.
Or the last interior set on the shelf!
An interesting note in the price list, other than the £2000.00 it would cost is "Winter Pack and Xenon winter pack not available when high luxury pack is selected" why?
The only item which could be linked is the Heated seats, I can see from your pictures you have Xenons Terry, but do you have heated seats?
I spotted the exhaust, The first and best mod for an STR.
Now a spanner in the works, My mind does misbehave these days but the more I think about this I'm sure i'm right.
I attended the Clubs 2nd S-Type Seminar back in Feb 2008 at the Jaguar Visitor's Centre.
On display was I believe the first S-type and the last S-Type built, supplied by Jaguar Heritage.
Some one might correct me on this but I am sure the first was a Jaguar Racing green 3.0ltr displayed inside. Outside was parked the last S -Type ever made,( in the spot where poor Mike parked his car at the last seminar awaiting the AA.) An S-Type R in Silver or whatever fancy name they have for this colour these days.
Should be easy to check there were a lot of people there, Nigel must have made the arrangements for the display.
I don't have any photo's of this Seminar but I'm Sure Tony took a few.
Wonder if Jaguar Herritage still have these cars, are they important enough to keep or have they let them go.
Just as a point of interest I also met a fellow S Type R owner who had a very early S regestered silver car who's first owner was Paul Gasgoine's farther apparently Paul bought him a few Jaguars lucky fellow,
(Something I'm always reminding my boy's as I run them from match to match every weekend. I'll be needing a new car as soon as the first contract is signed).
Wonder if he still owns the car.
Not much help with the actual production sequence
but I don't think yours is the last of the few, Terry

So Virginity broken! forgive me any spelling micktakes T T F N chaps.
Andre

Hi Andre and welcome, thanks for clearing up the seat mystery, I did spot the panelling going the opposite direction to the standard STR seats, and having only seen brochures up to 2005, I was led to believe that the luxury pack with soft grain leather was not available to earlier STR’s.
It is a 2008 model. But it was made in late June 2007.
Terry I’m getting confused, you mentioned twice that it was built June 29 2007 and once that it was registered June 29 2007, so how then could it be a 2008 model.

I’m not sure if you missed the point of the pictures I posted of the Stratstone LTD Edition STR, its a 57 Plate, which means it was registered from September 1st 2007, perhaps built July or August 2007, plus as its Car no 27 of 50 it also means that there could be 23 other Cars younger than or built after yours.
There are also Five 57 plate S Types (various Models) in the JEC S Type Register Page and after searching on Pistonheads and Autotrader classifieds, I found 27 S Type Cars with 57 plates, including 1 STR.

Something else I learned today from the JEC Model Info Page, is that the S Type was discontinued in Spring 2008 and not late 2007 as I had thought.

I still think there is something not quite right with your VIN number, I checked the Vin Designation of all Jaguar models built from year 2000 and the tenth digit is definitely the year build. (Source…Nigel Thorley’s ‘Jaguar All The Cars’, second edition)

Emerald Fire is the colour used 2008 onwards on X Type, XK, and XFR models, I didn’t know it was an option on later models until I found this advert from Jaguar Used Cars

Thanks to all of you for being interested. It looks like this quest-for-facts is drawing in some good information. Must preserve all the clues...

Yes - My car has heated front seats. Very comfy heated seats, I should add.

Here's a link to a 2008 S-Type brochure on Jag's website. Page 14 offers a "High Luxury Pack - Available on SE and R" The picture at the bottom of page 14 looks like the inside of my car:

http://www.jaguar.com/gb/en/owner_suppo ... odelYear08

I have to confess, it's looking very unlikely my beauty is one of the last dozen built, indeed it's looking like I'll be kinda silly if I hold out hope. Notwithstanding my sadness at not winning some kind of jackpot and ending up with one of the last STR's, I don't think we should give up on the quest to uncover the facts about when different S-Type models were last made - just sounds like a fun thing to know about the cars we love. I still love my car and can't wait to show it off at one of your events.

Incidentally, I'm not sure what model year my car is. There's a lot of confusion with car makers when it comes to how the "model year" squares up against the "dates of manufacture". It seems quite common for the model year designation to be way ahead of the fiscal year. According to Jaguar's own website, the 2008 S-Type was offered from January 2007 to March 2008. I agree with anyone who thinks that doesn't make much sense - I'd love to understand too! If Jag's website is accurate, and given that the date of manufacture for my car was June 2007, I'm kinda thinking it's a 2008 model, but I sure don't know.

One other little thing - I just moved to the UK from Canada 2-1/2 years ago, and that whole registration number thing you guys do in the UK where different numbers mean different model years is like Chinese to me, and the rest of the world. That's why I didn't pick-up on the significance of the 57 plate thing Doug. Sorry. Say, do you suppose the "07" in my reg plate is reference to the car being a 2007 model?

I can tell you all - the Paramount exhaust is awesome. It totally adds to the character of the car. It's a little noisy inside the cabin when the engine is loping in the 1,300 to 1,600 RPM range, but the joyous sound it makes at high revs and when you back-off the throttle are worth suffering with the wee bit of extra cabin noise. The best thing about the sound is that it kinda scares my wife when I put the hammer down, which is entertaining, but the growl is all angry pussy cat! Just the way it should be.

Hi Doug,
Terry seems to confirm what thought in the back of my mind.
I remember reading that the Model year has nothing to do with when a car is built. Unlike the engines.
Its all made up by the marketing train that has to keep rolling re- inventing itself to remain profitable or gain extra sales.
So next years model including all this extra stuff for not much more money could be anounced at any time.

I checked my VIN to see how it reflects on my car the tenth digit a 3 car first registered 27.09.02

For anyone interested, I've finally managed to post my STR to the JEC Vehicle Registry, with a few wee pics added.

Getting back to my fixation with the last dates of manufacture for S-Types:

Given that, according to Jaguar's website, the 2008 model year S-Type was built between January 2007 and March 2008 - Am I the only person who thinks its odd that there are zero (0) S-Types in the JEC S-Type Vehicle Registery, that were first registered in 2008? What happened to the S-Types made in Jan, Feb, Mar 2008?

If you go on autotrader the latest registered S types for sale are 57 plate which takes them up to end of febuary 2008 at the latest, however on Parkers guide they say they run from 99 to 07 not 08 and the XF was launched march 08.

That's interesting Chris, thanks! It's funny that there doesn't seem to be any reliable way for us Joe Blogs to find out when the last S-Types were built, and of course my favorite - When was the last S-Type-R built?

I stumbled across an interesting site - run by a guy who's figured out how to interrogate the UK Department of Transport base of registrations. Have a look at the data, it's interesting,

http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?page=1&q= ... =%E2%9C%93

This data isn't directly useful when it comes to S-Type manufacture dates, but the data does suggest the last S-Type-R built, was first registered in the year 2007.
