XK8s are a lot better in this respect than XJ-Ss and many other older Jaguars. However, as well as the obvious door seals if you have bought second hand there's always the possibility that the windscreen may have been changed and not sealed effectively. Mike.

Mike
Have just read your Post on the subject of leaks and hopefully the following comments may help
About 2years ago my 1996 XK8conv. developed a serious leak in the driver side footwell. I tried all sorts of sealents and sprays with no success including a trip to my local Jag specialist
However as a result of a small crack in the windscreen I had the screen and the seals replaced under my insurance ( paid £60 excess ). This solved the leak problem until a few days ago when much to my dismay it started again. Took the car back to Autoglass and they fixed the problem in seconds - the sceen seal had "sprung" very slightly and they simply pushed it back in place !!
It could be worth getting your screen seals changed
Hope this helps
Peter

leaky seals

Postby FELIX456 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 6:39 pm

My XK8 used to somehow allow rain into the passenger footwell, all I used to do to fix it was stop it getting wet! But in summer 08 I purchased some autoglym super wax stuff, expensive i know but worth it....no more wet carpets. Don't ask me why or how, it is just fixed. I did watch the rain fall off the car, it beaded up and fell off the paintwork really quick so it may be it just doesn't have time to seep through the seals any more. Worth a try.

I realize that I am coming to this Thread long after the issue has probably been resolved. However, it sounds from the amount of water coming in, far more likely that the culprit is the scuttle drain pipe has come off its elastic band!

Hi

I have the same problem on my 1996 coupe for a while now . It had started to soak the floorpans, more on the drivers side than passenger coming in over the drivers side fuse box cover and from the A post pillar on the passenger side. There is also water appearing at the back of the accelerator pedal , although I havent a clue where this is coming in

Our drive is slighly sloping backwards and at an angle so while it was hoofing it down this afternoon I turned the car around. No joy. It just came in more on the passenger side, although it did ease off a little on the drivers.

I have been investigating the seals around the doors for a while now and apart from being a weird design (IMHO) I have noticed the seals are being slightly pinched when the doors are closed. This is stopping water reaching the drain holes.

Having polished and fiddled about with this I have just done what you shouldnt do. Ordered a car cover . It may cause furher problems according to the various postes on the forum, however its that or a new floorpan until I can get it sorted somehow.

I know this is further down the line with regards to when I posted the original question but having purchased the car cover, which incidentally does keep the rain off but isn't exactly a good fit and has already scratched through the clearcoat in one place and left the odd slight whisper mark which the company aren't interested in I hadn't the time to wash it for the expected downpour and so I went and purchased incontinence pads which seem to work but
I am still getting water on the floopan which is puzzling me as I have everywhere covered.

I know it leaks behind the accelerator pedal which is also bugging me and down the side of the transmission tunnel.

It can't be from underneath as it wasn't driven in the rain

Anyone experienced water in any of these areas?

I have some expensive wax to put on and I will investigate the windscreen seal

Kind regards

Pat

If the car hasn't been on the road in the wet, yet has been covered, have you run the engine with the aircon switched on or was the car parked up after a run when the aircon had been operating? If so, you would need to check that the aircon unit is draining condensate water correctly to the underside of the car. Either of the two drains (flexible tubes) may be blocked. They are located behind the bulkhead firewall heat shield. Parking on a steep drive with a single blocked drain can be enough to allow the water to slosh into the car. Mike.

Hi mike
It happens after both , only if it rains. Last weekend it was dripping off the back of the brake pedal! I can't find out where it's coming in and I don't want to go down the 'replace everything in logical order route' as while been very expensive a lot of the parts and seals are not available any more.

I do know of someone with an 2000 xkr coupe who has a water leak under the brake pedal. It's not as bad as mine but he can't find out where it's coming in and he owns a garage and works on classic jags all day

Kind regards

Pat

Hi guys,

The other "logical" place that water can enter the car and end up in the footwell is from a windscreen seal that no longer seals. These are notoriously difficult to spot as they tend to look okay on first inspection, plus the point of entry of the rainwater is not necessarily adjacent to the location of the water showing inside the car.

Try washing the car when it is dry weather and you have not been driving in the rain. Before starting place some plastic sheeting in the footwell(s), covered with newspaper that would highlight the drips and see if you get water ingress.

If indeed a seal has "sprung", then a trip to the local Autoglass might be on the cards. Good luck tracking it down.
