Thanks for all suggestions, and sorry 4 late reply to dogbite, glad to here that
not just my fuel pump seems to be the wrong way up?
Still doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
I think I have cracked it today, however dont know if it is due to one thing i have done or a combination of the many tinkerings.
Just to recap on things done first suspect was vacuum advance on dizzy, checked seemed ok, also dizzy quite new.
Then new plugs, mainly because i won them cheep on ebay.
tried running with no air filter to see if ore happy, well a bit better but not right really.
Adjusted throttle stop and butterfly position, checked cold start/ extra fuel injector and cleaned.
Still not right.
Now Dont laugh as i havent received my workshop manual yet, but i freed of the Thing??? that sticks and causes high idle speed on cold start up, and also has some temp sensors on it.
Feel free to tell me what it is.
New fuel Filter ( a bigger and Better'er one)
Idle speed from cold now great at 750-800 but dying on throttle /flat spotting still there.
Finally checked and cleaned the connections on the temp sensors on the (THING???)( front of manifold in front of throttle body and air filter)I dont know the name for.
Result It seems!!
:D
Although i am waiting for tomorrow to finally relax, when i take her for another run, to see what happens.
Thanks for all suggestions.

Hi!
this is Valter, from Rome Italy,
Today during a check I discovered my car is running ritch too....not like me too...CO is 10.5

Anyway on mine i had (and have )severe fuel mileage (bad) and the engine is running very bad the first 2-3 minutes, during warmup, sometimes it goes very smooth but suddenly goes off, this is for about 2-3 minutes and then it gets normal.

I checked all various things, vacuum advance mech, vavuum timing, advance and so on and everything is within spec.

The engine when worm is fine, I would say perfect but the milage again, not.

On the manual service ( my car is a 3.6 manual 1986) no lambda probe, I can see that the adjustment of the CO is made via a trimmer inside the ECU covered by a metal label....is this true? Could I set the CO to right values via this adjustment?

Thank for any suggestion,

Valter

Hi valter,
Which manual are you using? is it the book?( i have just got the paper back book) or are you using a cd version.
Could you tell me what page you are looking at with regards to your adjustment in the ecu?
Also are you wanting to adjust the ECU trim pot just for emissions sake,
or do you want to adjust the fuel/air mix?
Perhaps we can fix the problem between us
Quite worryingly someone suggested my running problems could be caused by my car running to lean/not rich enough which is a very worrying prospect.
Hope fuel is cheaper in rome for you.

Hi and thanks for reply,
I have a CDROM wich contains a PDF of the book.
it's a 362 pages of manual for the 3.6 and the 3.6 cabrio. My car has no lambda probe.

In the chapter 19.1, fuel system, at the end is a list of troubles-solutions and at page 16 of chapter 19, is reported

IN CASE OF RITCH RUNNING ( EXCESS CO)

and among the various possible causes, that I have checked, is indicated

-cold start system inoperative
-incorrect idle mixture ( here is indicated as solution to adjust the trimmer inside the ECU)
-charcoal canister blocked (not present in my car)
-ECU amplifier

Petrol is expensive here too, but I am in love with this car and this is my weekend car. I' d like she to be in perfect shape....when hot, after 20.30 minutes, this car is perfect and driving is fantastic. I think We will sort out this provblem ...I hope I have not to drill a hole in the inlet manifold to take the vacuum for the ECU as mentioned in other circumstances...

Ciao and thank you for any help.

Valter

I think i will measure this trim pot in my ecu and then try adjusting it both ways to see what happens.
If you have a multi meter you may want to measure the resistance of your pot before adjusting it.
that way you can reset it to the same/old position/resistance if your car starts
to run badly after adjustments.

Anyone else out there tinkered with the pot adjustment in the ecu?

Do we know if an increase in resistance on the pot makes mixture weaker or richer.
or vice versa does decreasing the resistance on the pot make it
choice A:richer
or
choice B: leaner
????
press your buttons now to choose! (i think i have invented a new game show)
or answers on a postcard if you like.

Cheers Valter i am going to go and have a look in my book now to see if my pages correspond to yours on the cd.
Ciao.

Hi,
I have another ECU to play with, mine is LUCAS 8, maybe some component went bad, maybe the vacuum sensor..

we'll sort it out

Please let me know the result of your test.

Ciao
