Hi everyone, I'm hoping for some constructive input from members. I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2008 x type 2.2 dpf with 60k on the clock. Two owners and fsh. Thoughts please??

The X-type can be an extremely well equipped car depending on the specification. There is an option with the facelift model for a more sporty look and feel, or go for a luxury model. It depends what you want from a Jaguar. Check everything works. What spec is the car you are looking at?
I would start my inspection with the bodywork, in particular the sills along their length and at the rear. The plastic oversills makes it a little awkward but it is essential. They may have seen some repairs already, was it done well? Sills can be repaired at any good bodyshop and once rust proofed will not be a problem again. The rest of the body generally lasts vey well. Paint on these cars was also very good and to a very high standard. Suspension and steering etc just require normal checks as they last well, brake discs and pads are not expensive.
The 2.2 diesel engine is more refined than the 2.0 and gives good economy and power / torque. Usual diesel engine issues apply such as EGR, injectors and DPFs (if fitted not all cars have them). Turbo hoses can split/leak.
Service history is fine, it tells you whether the oil and filters were changed on time, but as these cars are now beyond their normal life expectancy it comes down to how it has been looked after, who owned it and whether they have given the car the extra TLC through its life which makes it last. I would own one, the facelift X-type is a great looking car and currently fantastic value for money. Let us know how you get on?
