I have disconnected the chirp sounder in the Drivers wheel arch. Will check relays, fuses and grounds again.

Cheap code reader brings up no codes. I am purchasing IDS and a mongoose so will see over the weekend.

2 Questions

1)Can a Jag dealer read a damaged key and clone it to a new one ? If the key was damaged would it allow ignition on (Dask lights on) but no starter motor cranking. I guess the question is at what point is the key read by the barrel transponder - at ignition or at crank ?

2)Reading on the web I see one other person who has similar symptoms and it turned out to the the KTM. Anyone got any advice on buying a second hand KTM and reprogramming it to the ECU using IDS? Appears that it can be easy to mess things up even more if you don't know what you are doing !

Thanks again to everyone for your contributions. Much appreciated.

The security system sits on a network and talks to various modules and acts as a gatekeeper - as to sequence I can't be sure. When you lock the car on the door and hold it in lock position for three seconds do the lights flash?

Have a look at all earths but also at all connectors - it may be worth pulling the connectors and refitting especially on the KTM - perhaps a pin has tarnished.

Jaguar dealer would use their box of tricks to connect to the car to in turn code the key. It's likely £500+ visit including the new key.

I think I'd exhaust all possibilities prior to a visit and reach out to David Marks, our model section technical expert with details of problem and what has been done so far.

I now have IDS and the codes are numerous including

Anti lock braking C1155 and C1233
Restrain control module - No communication
A load of climate control ones

Engine control P1260 - I think this one is significant but do not really know how to further on this diagnosis
Instrument pack - U1260, U1261, B1238
Transmission control P1799, P1731, P0790, P1798

Where do you think I should go first ?

thanks

If the key transponder is working, the symptoms and codes all suggest a break/fault (one or more) in the canbus circuitry. Whether that's something simple, like a poor earth, dodgy connector or broken wiring, is impossible to say. Short of a really lucky break, you probably need someone with David Marks' combination of experience, skill, determination and Jaguar-level diagnostic kit to work their way logically through the system, eliminating issues one by one until the critical problem is identified and solved. Mike.
